7 Affiliate Marketing Secrets You Need To Know For Success
In this post, I am going to share with you some top affiliate marketing secrets that I have picked up along the way while building my business. Some affiliate marketers are making a serious amount of money and novice affiliate marketers really want to know how they do it.
It can be really frustrating when you see that other people are rolling in cash, when you are still struggling to make a few pennies. You may be thinking that they have some kind of affiliate marketing secrets that are allowing them to do this.
To be honest, there are no secrets really, but there are a few things that need your attention to give your business the ability to reach its full potential.
1. Get In The Zone
I sometimes struggle with this myself, but you have to give yourself a shake and get serious. You have a legitimate business, so you need to treat it like one. it is necessary to treat it just like a traditional “bricks and mortar” business. You are a managing director of a business, this is not something you are playing at. Your business should be your main focus in life to make it successful.
2. Don't Be Shy About It
Even when you are starting out, you can be a bit shy about what you are embarking on when people ask you what you do for a living. This is because you don’t really know if it is going to work. But, how you talk about your business determines how people see it.
Talking yourself down while talking about your business will make people think that you are not serious, that you have lots of time on your hands and you are just playing at it.
When someone asks you what you do, tell them you have an online business that you have created. If they are interested, tell them how it works and give them a business card. They may be interested and visit your website. You never know who you are going to meet, a meeting could lead to a sale or other opportunities. For example, I carry business cards for my mountain bike website when I am out on my bike. More often than not I get chatting to someone and I can slip them a business card at the right moment.
Being like this will make people take you seriously, this will help with your work ethic dramatically.
3. Get Organised
You need to plan where you want your business to be in the future. Having a clear picture of this will allow you to see the steps you need to take to get there. Your plans and circumstances will change, but you still need to have the same goal at the end of it.
The main thing with affiliate marketing is content. So, you need to plan your content around quality keywords in advance. You should also set out all the headings for each post you create. This way you are not starting with an empty page every time you sit down to work. This saves you time and increases your productivity.
I like to have a huge list of keywords to write about. This doesn’t take too long to put together and it can last you months. On a Sunday evening, I create drafts of a few posts I want to get written the following week. I set out the headings and subheadings and put a few words below each one. This prompts me to get writing without having to think about it too much. I have found this to be a very efficient way of writing. Also, I like to create templates for certain types of posts. This means that the design is consistent and I don’t need to spend time recreating everything each time for product reviews etc.
4. Get Branded
A brand can mean the difference between a business being successful and failing. A good brand will make you stand out from the crowd. This is essential, as the affiliate marketing crowd is getting bigger.
Your logo, domain name and style all need to be relevant to your niche and be well thought out. A professionally designed logo looks great, if you can afford it get a graphic designer to create one for you. However, you can make a great logo using Canva. This is a free website, but you can pay for add ons. I created the logo for this website using it.
A good logo will be recognised by your audience and potential business partners. It will also look great on a business card.
When building your website, you need to be upfront with your audience too. By placing an affiliate disclaimer on your site, you are telling them that you may earn money from their purchases. Your style of communicating should be as if you are talking to your friends.
Additionally, only protection products and services that you genuinely recommend. You need to solve people’s problems and provide reliable information to build trust. If you come across a product that is terrible, you may want to talk about that too. This is because you can suggest alternatives, which demonstrates that you know what you are talking about.
5. Use The Right Techniques
To make money you need to attract people to your website. Using the right techniques will do this and for FREE! This means that you shouldn’t need to rely on paid adverts and promotions for people to find you.
By using the proper techniques and strategies, people will come to you, rather than you chasing them. For example, if a person has a problem they need solving, they will search for a solution on the internet. If you create content that is relevant to that problem using good SEO techniques, that person will find it. This is because it will rank highly in the search engine for their query.
The techniques are not complicated, but there are a few to learn. You can learn the techniques with some good training. I learned all of the techniques from Wealthy Affiliate. Wealthy Affiliate have a FREE membership that is worth checking out.
Examples of these techniques are:
- On page SEO
- Off page SEO
- Optimum word count
- Good keyword research techniques
- Creating quality content
- Choosing a profitable niche
- Effective monetising
- Social engagement
- Understanding your audience
6. Work Hard
One of there biggest (if not, THE biggest) factors of your affiliate marketing business is YOU. Dedication, hard work and consistency are super important for success. Your passion for your business and where it can take you should drive you to work hard and smart.
By taking action every day to reach your goal, you have a better chance of getting there than if you just dip in and out of it. Creating content constantly is very important, not just for your audience but for search engines. This demonstrates to them that you are not just playing at it and your website is alive with lots of quality information.
Be under no illusion that you can make money quickly with affiliate marketing. There are no loopholes or secrets to overnight success. It takes many months just to make some pennies, and don’t let anyone else tell you any different. It can take a year or more to start seeing some good money coming in. But, this shouldn’t put you off. You will start getting the rewards with perseverance.
Ultimately, I started affiliate marketing to have a flexible lifestyle. This happens most of the time, but I still have to complete my set of tasks each week. This means late nights and saying no to my my friends on occasion when they are going out etc.
7. Get Trained
Nobody wakes up one morning an affiliate marketing expert. To be successful, you need to learn a few skills. Some of them are more complex than others, while some are super simple. It is common for affiliate marketers to fail due to lack of knowledge.
Many people trawl the internet and watch YouTube videos to learn about it. Many of the resources you find tell you how to span the internet with affiliate links, which most platforms don’t allow you to do. This isn’t good practice and will not get you good sales.
The best way is to help people with great content on your website with certain techniques. This is why proper training is essential. By learning how to do it properly, you will reduce the amount of mistakes you make, which will speed up your journey to success.
It takes a long time for any website to rank on search engines (even when you do it properly), so any mistakes you make will not become obvious for many months (trust me, know). If you are serious about building a successful affiliate marketing business, you really need to get trained.
I mentioned Wealthy Affiliate earlier, this is by far the best training platform I have found for affiliate marketing. In fact it is more than a training platform, as it has so many more elements to it. It is a one stop shop for anyone that is starting out in affiliate marketing.
