All About Website Ranking and the importance of SEO
As you create more content for your niche website, you should start to be thinking about website ranking.
Why is Website Ranking Important?
Simply put, higher website ranking means more traffic. This is because it allows you to attract relevant search traffic to your website. More traffic leads to more opportunity for earnings. The great thing about high website ranking is that it is free! It is entirely possible to create a profitable website with good website rankings alone.
How Does Website Ranking Work?
To answer this question, I will concentrate on google, as it is the most popular search engine. Google uses an algorithm that has many different things that it takes in to account to decide its search ranking. Therefore, your site needs to be optimised for search engines. This is known as search engine optimisation (SEO) and once you learn a bit about it, it becomes a lot easier. If you want to learn more about it, I suggest you get some good training. However, SEO comes from good website content, engagement and site speed, which leads to good website ranking.
How Important is SEO for Website Ranking?
The answer to this is VERY and there are a few reasons why.
1. Because everyone uses search engines
When we want to find something out, search on Google, or another search engine such as bing or yahoo. This is because it is an easy way to find something. There are other ways that you find out about websites, such as social media or forums.
The other good thing about using search engines, is that you can follow links from a site you already know about. Websites will often provide links to other related websites. This is a big thing when it comes to website ranking, because search engines judge a site by how many other sites link to it. You will find that websites that aren’t owned by big companies will often exchange links to help each other out. However, if users have to follow a long line of links to get to your site, they are not going to find it. This is one of the reasons we use SEO.
2. Search engines are getting more clever
Even though Google is the big hitter in the search engine world, the search engines are constantly fighting. Search engines don’t just list every website phonebook style. But, they do present what you’re looking for to you. This means you don’t have to sift through a load of rubbish to find what you are looking for.
To make this better search engines are always improving their algorithms. They are looking for things like:
- The number of external links
- How often the site is updated
- Is the content duplicated
- The amount of traffic the site is receiving
- How often relevant keywords occur
There are two terms for SEO, black hat and white hat. White hat SEO involves going along with the spirit of what search engines look for, while black hat SEO is when you find ways to exploit search engine algorithms in order to get a high website ranking without earning it first.
3. Good SEO means a good website
When you have good SEO at least when you do it the white hat way, your site will be a unique website that will rank well for one or more search terms. Also, it will get there because it will have what the search engine users want to find on it.
Some search engines can spot poor spelling and grammar.
This evolution of search engines isn’t just to determine which sites should be at the top of the results page. It is also to prevent black hat search engine optimisers, so people won’t be duped into visiting unrelated sites full of adverts, tracking cookies and scams.
Following white hat methods rather than finding underhand black hat way is the best way. You will see that doing it the right way with SEO will mean you are doing right by your website visitors.
With this information, you should be able to see why SEO is important. It doesn’t cost anything (other than time and effort). It is best to use it as guidelines for good website ranking.
How to Check Website Ranking
You can check your website ranking in google in a few ways. One way is to go to google and do a simple google search.
For example, if I was looking to see if I was ranked under the term “mountain bike GPS Smartwatch”, I would type it into Google.
Once you have the results, just scroll down the ranks until you find your page. This is a very long winded way of doing it, but there is a better way to do it.
There is a great keyword search tool called Jaaxy, but it also has a site rank feature. It will check all of your website rankings in Google, Bing & Yahoo in seconds.
You get access top Jaaxy when you join WealthyAffiliate.com, even within their free membership. Wealthy Affiliate is a very comprehensive affiliate marketing platform with lots of training and other tools, but you can use it for just the site rank if you are not interested in anything else.
