How To Work from Anywhere In The World: 15 Jobs and Skills

How To Work from Anywhere In The World: 15 Jobs and Skills

Currently I am working from my apartment in the French Alps, and I have just got back from splitboarding with my friends. This is the benefit I get from working online. I get to do what I want when I want (most of the time) and work my own hours. There are lots of ways to earn money online and the beauty of it is that you can do it from pretty much anywhere. My choice of online business is  affiliate marketing. It gives me the flexibility of being able to enjoy the mountains and earn some decent money. Here is my guide on how to work from anywhere in the world.

How to work from anywhere in the world

Working online requires a computer, an internet connection and a few skills. A computer is relatively easy to come by and you would be very unlucky or very remote to not find an internet connection these days. Therefore, the hard part is acquiring some skills. Once you have got the necessary skills, you will find it easier to start bringing in some money. You will be able to start your own business, work remotely for someone else or both.

Skills that are difficult to learn, will bring in more money. For example a software developer will be able to buy his season ski pass by working just a few hours, while a blog writer will have to work a lot harder to finance his aprés ski beers.

As there are many ways to earn money from anywhere in the world other than affiliate marketing, I have put together a list of different things you may want to consider. Whichever one you choose, will be able to fund or at least help to fund your adventurous lifestyle.

1. Data Entry

OK this may not seem particularly exiting, but it will give you an opportunity to make some cash. Data entry involves carrying out a few tasks relevant to the work that you get. You can expect to be typing, processing data and filling in spreadsheets. There are lots of data entry sites to sign up to, all you need to do is apply. Some have minimum requirements before they let you join. It is very simple to do, but won’t be very inspiring. You simply get data from one place and put it in to another. This is something you can do while listening to some tunes on the beach, in van or from home.

2. Blog Writing

If you want to use your writing skills your own blog site, you are going to find it very difficult to make a living. There are lots of really successful blog sites, but there are a lot more that son’t make any money. When blogging first became popular, there was a lot more scope for making money from a blog site. However, you may want to start a blog site with the aim to promote your services, if you choose to do one of the other things on this list.

You may be able to earn a little bit of money from writing blogs for other people. For example, if you are living in a ski resort, get to know some of the local companies. Chalet companies, ski schools, transfer companies, private chefs etc have lots of competition and don’t have time to write blogs. Offer your services to get cash in for your new pair of ski boots.

3. Surveys

You can actually earn money by filling out surveys. Don’t expect it to make enough money to buy your first beach house, but you can earn some nice money on the side while you are working on your next big thing.

There are a lot of advantages to this online job and not many disadvantages. For example, you don’t need to spend any money to get going (as long as you have a computer), you don’t need any previous experience and you can do it from anywhere in the world. Ideal for when you are sitting on the beach waiting for the perfect surf conditions. It is very easy and there are lots of sites you can choose from. Also, there is no limit to how many you can sign up to. If you manage to fill out a few a week the cash will start rolling in. Don’t expect loads of money, but this is a great way to earn cash for plane tickets or a new bed for your camper van.

4. E-Commerce

Selling stuff online is very easy these days. You can open an online store or just sell stuff on Amazon marketplace. You can also sell stuff on Ebay.

However, you do need to sell something that people are going to buy to make any money, you also need to price your products competitively.

You don’t have to have physical products to sell though. You can sell your knowledge, by writing ebooks on your specialist subjects.

5. Affiliate Marketing

This is my choice of online business. You promote other people’s products and in turn you get a small percentage of what it sold for or a flat rate. To. make your affiliate marketing business successful, you need to generate lots of traffic to your website.

Affiliate marketing requires a lot of  of time and effort on generating traffic. It takes a long time before you see any money. Eventually, with hard work and a little luck, affiliate marketing could give you the freedom to do literally anything you want to, where you want to with only a few hours work a week. It is frustrating to start with, because you don’t see results for a long time. Also, you don’t get a certain amount of money for working a certain amount of hours, so you just have to keep creating content. If you get it right, the sky is the limit.

6. Programming

It takes a few years to learn how to become a programmer. You also need a few years of work experience before you really know what you are doing. However, good programmers earn a lot of money. If you haven’t done any kind of programming before and it interests you, do some tutorials or courses to get some skills

To become a Programmer however, you really need to be in to it. It is very difficult and you will come up with lots of things to overcome while you are learning. But once you get the necessary skills and experience, the world is your playground. These skills are in high demand and are paid for by high hourly rates. Even if you decide to stop the adventurous lifestyle and settle down somewhere, you will be able to settle pretty much wherever you want.

7. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

SEO is the art of getting websites ranked as high as possible on search engines relevant to people’s search terms. Working on SEO is a great way to work form anywhere in the world, but you need to get results. You can do this for your own websites or for other people’s. You need some skills to do this, mainly web design and Copywriting. You also need to know how get the most out of the tools available to you. To be successful at SEO you need to gain experience, research the topic a lot and network with people who do the sam. Unfortunately, Google has a habit of changing its algorithms, meaning you need to know what is going on to keep up with the game. This will mean your clients will earn money and so will you.

8. Website Design

You can actually learn how to build basic websites quite easily. For example, with a bit of hard work and dedication, you can learn how to build WordPress websites for clients in a few weeks. Simply by using WordPress themes, you can make a great looking website. You do need some knowledge of web, but the basics are really easy to learn, so you can easily find tutorials to help you get started. I learned when I signed up to the free training on Wealthy Affiliate. To start making money with web design is to build a site about a topic you are interested. This will act as an example of what you can do (you may want to put some affiliate links on it too). Once you have this site, you can approach business owners you know personally, and offer to build them a website. If you manage to do a good job, ask them to refer you to other businesses.

9. Graphic Design

If you are a bit arty, you may be able to become a graphic designer. However, you will need a few skills, obviously you need to know how to draw and create great designs for clients. But, also you need in-depth knowledge of Photoshop. This is not something you can learn quickly. But, if you gain these skills and produce work to a high standard, most companies won’t mind where in the world you do your work from. If you decide to hang around ski resorts, there are always new companies in need of logos and other companies re-branding. Therefore, if you are good enough, you should be able to pick up enough work.

10. Consulting

You can work in consulting from pretty much anywhere, in any industry. This is probably best for people that are already experienced consultants that want to change their lives.  If you are a consultant already, you won’t have to change much in order to work from anywhere in the world.

11. Social Media

Companies can find it very difficult to keep their social media accounts up to date. These days, it is essential to produce quality content regularly, to get new customers and stay in the minds of current customers.

You can approach these companies and look after their social media for them. It is a great way of making money and it is really easy to do. However, to make sure you get the best results, you will need to to a bit of research in to when and what to post. If you manage the social media for a chalet company, just make sure you take some photos and videos while you out on the mountain. You will also want to show off their services and properties while sharing local knowledge to followers.

12. Copywriting

Copywriters write advertising and promotional materials. They are responsible for the text on brochures, billboards, websites, emails, advertisements, catalogs, and more.

Copywriting is not the particularly well paid, button can make about $15 an hour. This should be enough to an adventurous lifestyle with a low-cost of living, working four hours a day. If you specialise in something such as SEO, you will be able to charge more. As a copywriter you gain a lot of experience by writing articles for other people while getting paid. This gives you a great insight into how other internet entrepreneurs make their money.

You can find copywriting jobs on www.freelancer.com. Here you need to gain a reputation for writing good content and gaining good reviews. You really need to aim to write about stuff you actually like to keep it interesting. However, there will be stuff you will absolutely hate doing.

13. Trading Stocks

You can make and lose lot of money can be made online. However, you need to have a decent amount of cash to get going. You also need a lot of luck, time and patience, therefore you might want other ways to make money while before you turn in to a full time online trader.

14. Teaching

Online learning is getting very popular. You obviously need to be qualified in a specific subject, but the possibilities are endless. Teaching languages, online lectures and tutorials are just some of the things you can do from anywhere.

15. Translating

If you can write well and are fluent in two or more languages, translation is a great way to work from anywhere in the world. Additionally, living abroad can even be an advantage. For instance if you are German and spend your time in Spanish-speaking countries, you are more likely to be offered work than your locally based German counterparts as your clients will feel more confident in your level of skill in both languages.
