Ways To Make Money Online At Home

Many people are now looking for ways to make money online at home. And why not? I am not saying it is an easy option, but starting an online business has many benefits. From being relatively cheap to start, to having high earning potential. In this post I am going to go through some of the ways to make money online at home, so you can start a side hustle, or work towards earning money from home full time.

Making money online isn’t just for tech wizards that have mega coding and marketing skills. There are some online businesses that anyone can start. These are all proven to be good sources of income and are realistic for most people to start. You just need to be willing to learn and put the necessary effort in.

1. Blog Writing For Other People

Blogs are a great way for businesses to communicate with their current customers. They are also very useful for attracting potential new customers to their websites. This is because blogs that are written to inform, entertain, and educate are organically found in search engines and are shared through social media.
The problem businesses have, is that blogs take time to write, so they find it difficult to fit blog writing into their schedules. This is where blog writers come in.
Blog writers can create engaging and informative blogs on behalf of businesses. How much experience you have, will determine how much you can charge for writing blogs. There are people making a lot of money creating website content and blogs. The more blogs you can write in a day, the better.
If you have a way with words and think that you could write blogs for businesses, create a Fiverr account. This is a platform where freelancers offering ally types of services can get work. It is a very clever way of making money online.

2. Build Your Own Blog

It is possible to make money from your own blog. Traditionally, blogs are used as a form of social media. Bloggers write about the things they have done and the places they have been. As a blogger, you need to be good at marketing yourself through social media, but there are other things you need to do to gain exposure. For example, you can write guest blogs on other people’s websites, or join platforms such as HARO. HARO stands for help a reporter out, and it is where journalists post adverts requesting information on things they are writing about. With a bit of luck, they will be writing about something you are an expert in. If you do some work for them, you will be able to get exposure for your website.
Once you get a good following, you can monetise your website in several ways. Examples of monetisation are selling advertising space, affiliate marketing, writing sponsored content, and advertorials.

3. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is closely related to blogging, but instead of writing about what you get up to, you base your website around a particular subject. Affiliate marketing is what I spend the majority of my working time on. This is because it is the best way to make money online in my experience.

As an affiliate marketer, you build a website and create content that promotes other people’s products and services. In return for your hard work, you get a commission for each sale that is generated through your website.

Affiliate marketing websites are always based around a niche. Niches such as sports, hobbies, aspects of life, and interests attract people looking for information on specific topics. If it is created properly, the content itself attracts people, as it will come up in their online search results. Therefore, you don’t need to spend money on advertising, etc. Examples of content include:

  • Reviews
  • Buyer’s guides
  • Tutorials
  • Blogs
  • Personal experiences
  • Comparisons

If you have a passion for a particular subject, you can base your affiliate marketing website around it. This makes it more fun, as you are writing about stuff you actually love. You will also do a much better job, as your passion will come through in your content.

I go into how affiliate marking works in more detail, in my post how can I make money from affiliate marketing?

Just like anything, there are pros and cons to affiliate marketing. But the pros outweigh the cons, also most of the cons can be managed with good old fashioned hard work.

4. Drop Shipping

Drop shipping is a great business model that allows you to sell products online without having to buy stock in advance.

The way this works, is that you set up an online store with several products. When somebody buys a product, you put the order through to the supplier. This is when you pay for it. The supplier then sends it directly to the customer.

You make money from listing the products on your website with a hefty markup. This is a very simple business model and there are people making millions form doing drop shipping.

The difficult part is attracting customers to your website. This is done by using target social media adverts. It takes some trial and error to met your targeted adverts dialled in, but, if you persist, you can do very well from drop shipping.

5. Social Media Management

Much like blog writing, businesses find it difficult to find the time to post quality social media content. With a bit of research, you can easily spot the businesses that are smuggling with their social media strategies. Therefore, you can offer your services to do it for them.
Approach the companies that you feel you would like to work with. Make sure to explain to them the importance of having a good social media presence and tell them how you can help them.
Depending on what your customers want, you can charge up to $1,000 per month. Four or five customers could make you some very nice money indeed. There are a few scheduling tools that can reduce your workload considerably too. I go into more detail in my post about starting a social media management business.

6. Freelancing

Freelancing is a huge online industry. You may have some skills (or want to learn some) that will allow you to do freelance work for other people. Examples of freelance work are:

  • Blog writing
  • Graphic design
  • Web design
  • Virtual assistant
  • Social media management
  • Proofreading
  • Copywriting
  • Voiceover
  • Film editing
  • User testing
  • Animation
  • Product research
  • etc

This is by no means, an extensive list, but you get the idea of what is possible. Freelancing is a great side hustle while you are in employment. This is because you can make it fit around your life. But, if you spend enough time on it, you will be able to use it as your full-time job.

I really recommend that you sign up to Fiverr, to get freelancing gigs. Fiverr is where people go to find freelances for all sorts of tasks. You build up a reputation, by responding quickly to your customers, creating good work, and getting reviews. Other customers will see your reviews and ratings, so providing a good service is essential for getting more work.

A common mistake that new freelancers on Fiverr make, is charging too little for their services. This doesn’t look good and potential customers won’t take you seriously. There are a number of training courses within Fiverr to help you make the most out of your profile and attract customers.

7. Selling Physical Products

I have already covered drop shipping as a method for selling products online, but there are other ways. You can sell via marketplaces, such as Etsy, eBay, or Amazon. This is a very popular method, as it is easy to create accounts and get started.
These marketplaces have their advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage is that they are established brands the people trust, so customers don’t question buying from them. The main disadvantage of using them is that there are a lot of people selling through them. So you can have a lot of competition. This results in price wars and reducing your profit margins.
Another popular way of selling products online is through social media. For example, you can create a Facebook business page and add a “buy” button. Then it is up to you to build up a large number of followers with great content. You can also target your audience, using Facebook ads.

8. Selling Digital Products

The great thing about selling digital products, is that you only have to create them once, but sell multiple times. Examples of digital products are:

  • Training courses
  • ebooks
  • video
  • music
  • audio files
  • Photos
  • Memberships
  • Software
  • Games

You will need to set up a website as a platform to sell these digital products. It will be necessary for you to market your website in the right way, to ensure that you reach your intended audience.
